"We have a high intensity pit mix that was a stray puppy my son took in, and he had now become our dog. He is 4-5 years old and was never given any formal obedience training. "I rescued a 10 year old dog last October who was living with transients.  He had been abused and malnourished to say the least; from a collapsed trachea to injured hips, back and hind legs.  It took over 6 months for him to trust me but he would still bite me if I touched his hind area, barked uncontrollably at every dog and could not be trusted with others.  I moved to TX this summer and reached out to JP Dog Training.  After the consult, I just knew they were the right trainers for Cooper given their positive reinforcement and owner-led philosophies.  Cooper was in their Doggie Boot Camp level 1 for two weeks and wow! My dad is the one that taught me to love and to respect both people and animals. He is an amazing leader and will serve you with kindness. He will love your dog like his own. He will train you to lead your dog. He is a good and trustworthy person who adores dogs and his work with them. And he is great at what he does! We had many dogs growing up. They were all fiercely loyal to my dad. Most were raised and trained from the time they were puppies to be well behaved and to play well with us (4 kids) and the other dogs. " I was referred by my manager (Camp Bow Wow in Flower Mound TX), who had used JP’s training program for their dog. I did some research beforehand and found that JP would be a good fit for Evie (my dog) and I. Evie was a little different because she didn’t necessarily have obedience issues. Backstory: Evie was found in a hoarding situation with many other dogs and cats and was rescued by Humane Tomorrow. She was placed in a foster home for about 14 months before I knew she was the one for me. Evie never had any consistency or structure in her life and the only people she truly formed a bond with was her foster and me. I read that she would do better in a one-person only household. As she started to form a bond with me it compelled her to be protective because of her insecurities. As a result, this led to horrible resource guarding of me from my mom. She never made direct contact, but it was upsetting to see, and I was on the path to thinking this was not a good fit. This is when I decided to seek help and found JP Dog Training. In just one hour of the initial assessment, it felt like JP had known my dog for the longest time. He really got to know Evie by asking questions about her story. I knew how much of an expert he was because he could sense my dog’s fear and anxiety. He showed so much compassion to Evie by allowing her to trust at her pace. As JP, my mom, and I worked together on helping Evie, she had made progress between each training session. JP’s philosophy of being the “leader” must not be misconstrued with being a jerk. Being a leader was about guiding Evie through her fears and not shielding her from them. At home, Evie was a natural performer and loved to show off tricks. JP and I played off her skills, which made her become more confident each day. We also worked on leash technique, which was also gave Evie confidence, structure, and a fun time on our walks. Anyone can take the tools JP teaches and apply them at home because it truly is that simple. I had already believed in Evie, but JP instilled that into our training each time.
